The B-Cycle bike-sharing program are hoping to launch in Boulder, Colorado this spring. From 20 May, roughly 200 bikes will be available from 25 downtown docking and rental kiosks – as long as $750,000 of additional funding can be found.

Last month I went to a doctor’s appointment at George Washington Medical Faculty Associates (MFA) here in D.C. I stepped off the elevator, had my palm scanned at a kiosk, answered a few questions on a touch screen about my insurance and emergency contacts, selected my appointment for the day, paid my co-pay, took my receipt and sat down with a crossword puzzle in the waiting room. How great is that?

Earth Day 2010 — April 22 — will be a fitting opening day for Denver's B-cycle. Riders will pay a small fee to access hundreds of bikes at 38 kiosks placed at high-traffic sites near bus stops and light-rail stations in downtown Denver, as well as the Cherry Creek, University of Denver, Capitol Hill and Golden Triangle neighborhoods.
